George II Bureau bookcaseSOLD

Exceptionally rare George II ( 1740 ) mahogany bureau bookcase with hand  bevelled  mirror doors in a scalloped and parcel gilt frames, candle slides under the doors. Lovely fitted interior with concealed compartment in the centre cupboard. Carcase is in three parts, the base splits in two consistent with very early 18th century furniture, the  back is panelled in oak and consistent on all three parts, cornice is part of the top carcase and is the 1740 architectural model, ogee feet are also correct for this period. This piece is thought to have been made by one of the well-known London furniture makers of which it has many similarities to the work of for example Giles Grendey (1693-1780) unfortunately no makers name is present, but it remains a significantly prestigious piece obviously made for a wealthy household. This piece appears very original even down to the handles, it  has had previously extensive restoration so it is in 1st class state and with its lovely mirrored doors and candle slides it gives an impressive accent to the right interior.

Size: 113cm x 61cm x 250cm tall.
