Carlton House deskSOLD
Here is a lovely example of the famous Carlton House desk alegedley designed in the 18th century for the Prince of Wales (who later became George IV) by George Hepplewhite. It is named after Carlton House, which was at the time the London residence of the Prince of Wales.
This desk was made in the 19th century, has a superb colour and has been entirely re-French polished, lovely inlaid D framed table base all in mahogany inlaid with satinwood and boxwood with tapering legs and box castors, note the handles only found on this piece of furniture, the raised console is almost a work of art, with a number of inlaid oak linned drawers, the corner drawers are unusual to these desks.
The rear and sides are also very decorative inlaid and polished, indicating that this is a piece that would grace a central position in a room and not against the wall.
size: 124cm x 57cm x 96cm high.
