Cardtable c 1760SOLD
€ €895,00
This is a very special cardtable being made to a very high standard in Cuban mahogany with fretted out patterns on the legs, the top is edged in Cuban crossgrain and also has Cuban crossbanding, the rails are solid Cuban as are the legs and the whole piece has an original wax finish being made before shellac polish was available.
The detail on the legs indicates that this piece dates to roughly 1760 as there was then the very fashionable trend to adopt these oriental or Chinese fret patterns in the design , this being mainly a trend associated with the top London makers of the time, in fact Thomas Chippendale has many well known designs accommodating these features.
This piece is certainly one of the finest quality card tables and is very collectable if you go for eighteenth century furniture. size 81cm x 82cm x 75cm
