This is an 18th century country chair in waxed elm, these were made provincialy by local furniture makers in the local timbers, the designs were copied from the famous designers of the time, usually with slightly quirky differences as this one diplays a rather extreme angle on the back legs.
This chair is known to have come from Scotland, would probably been part of a set, now single and useful as perhaps a desk chair, or an extra sidechair.
has been re-waxed and has new upholstery.
